Bugs

There are so many flies and other bugs in India. I guess it's the climate. The UK/Michigan/Colorado are generally colder, so the bugs die. Here is a fruit stall in the street with a load of bugs eatting the fruit. I wonder if they ever sell any to people.

It's kind of hard to see, but all the black spots on the watermellon are flies and bees.

Animals in the Street

I'm sure there will be lots more posts like this one because there are always all kinds of animals in the street. Here's a donkey on the median of a road in Solapur.

And an elephant that hangs out near our flat in Pune.

Little Rat

I saw this little rat in the Mumbai CST railway station. I posted him on facebook, but he's cute so he gets to be posted here too.

Cockroach

The other night we had a comedy moment in our flat; it was like out of a TV show. We all went to bed and I heard Jenny watching something on her computer so I snuck out of my room into the hallway to see if she was still awake. I was walking slowly towards her room when I saw a big bug crawling on the floor from Susan's side of the hall towards Jenny's room; I froze and didn't know what to do. I whispered 'Jenny, there's a big bug crawling towards your room' and knocked on her door. Susan's light turned on and she came running out of her room with a shoe in her hand ready to attack this bug. We cornered it from three sides and Susan threw the shoe on it. I've never seen a cockroach before, and I guess this was a pretty big one too. Here's the aftermath

Susan said 'That's India for you.' I hope we don't have any more of those in the house.

Child Beer

My first post is a guest submission from my new friend Susan. She works with me at Shelter, and we live together here in Pune. This is a photo she took up in Jaisalmer last time she was in India for her study abroad.

In Hindi it says 'Chilled Beer'.

Weird Things

My sister Valerie asked me to start a new blog of weird stuff in India, so here it is. Some of these things might not be weird to Indian people, but probably will be for western people. I've also decided to expand 'weird' to include 'interesting' and 'cute' and 'anything i feel like posting' ;-). Hope you like it!
